Sanford Guide China Forum, Beijing - Nov.2011
Antimicrobial Therapy, Inc. and Peking Union Medical College convened the first Sanford Guide Forum in China on November 5, 2011 in Beijing. The afternoon session included a keynote lecture by Robert C. Moellering, Jr., MD on resistant gram positives and lectures by Henry F. (Chip) Chambers, MD on multi drug-resistant gram negative bacilli and Xiao Yonghong, MD on the role of treatment guidelines in the era of antibiotic resistance. The session was attended by more than 5,000 Chinese physicians, live and by webcast to 50 locations throughout China.
Sanford Guide Web Edition Deployed Nationwide in VA Medical Centers - Oct.2011
In October, 2011, The Sanford Guide Web Edition was deployed nationwide throughout U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers. With 152 medical centers in 50 States, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico, the VA provides health care to more than 5.5 million veterans annually. In addition, the VA manages the largest medical education and health professions training program in the U.S. VA Medical Centers serve as teaching hospitals for medical schools across the country. The Sanford Guide In Equatorial Africa
The books travel to Africa in backpacks, suitcases and small parcels. The couriers are most often physicians doing demanding work under difficult conditions. The recipients are local physicians, pharmacists and nurses whose mission is to provide the best care possible in their communities. We have supported these efforts over many years, as a small, but meaningful, contribution to improving health care delivery in Africa. The photos here were sent to us in thanks from friends and colleagues in various countries, including Cameroon, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Malawi.
Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting May 15, 2011
We continued our support of the Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland just before the opening of the annual WHO World Health Assembly. Each year, the Commonwealth Health section focuses ministerial level attention on public health issues of concern to its 53 member nations, including HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health and e-Health. We are pleased to have supported the efforts of Commonwealth Health since 2009.
European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases - May 4th 2011
We traveled to Milan, Italy in spring 2011 for the annual European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. A pre-release version of the Sanford Guide for iPhone and iPad drew enthusiastic responses from a record crowd. Also on display were the Web Edition and the print editions of The Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy and The Sanford Guide to HIV/AIDS Therapy. It was a pleasure to see old friends from the UK, Iceland, Belgium, Poland, China, Iran and elsewhere. We look forward to meeting again in London in 2012.
International Symposium on Antimicrobial Agents and Resistance - April 26, 2011
The 8th International Symposium on Antimicrobial Agents and Resistance was held in Seoul, Korea April 23-26, 2011. We had a booth to exhibit the current electronic and print editions of The Sanford Guide. Bob Mollering, one of our longtime editors, presented the keynote address on treatment options for highly resistant organisms.
Though 2,000 had registered to attend what was a fine scientific program, actual attendance was less, no doubt due to the continuing situation in nearby Japan in the aftermath of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. The English-language Seoul newspaper ran daily stories fueling fears of radioactive rain, sold out stocks of potassium iodide and banned vegetables.

LONDON BOOK FAIR - April 26, 2010
Our booth at the 2010 London Book Fair was empty -- as were many others -- due to the flight groundings that resulted from the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Instead of a short flight from Budapest to London, we had an odyssey across Europe as did so many other travelers we encountered along the way. With two other stranded travelers, we hired a van and driver in Budapest and drove across the continent to Paris -- 14.5 hours across Hungary, Austria, Southern Germany and Eastern France. In Paris, the Gare du Nord was mobbed; Eurostar trains to London were booked for days out. We were able to secure tickets, but for travel a week later -- 2 days after the close of the book fair.
We hope for better results in 2011.
